John Kai Lassen Discusses The Delaware Nature Society
For almost 50 years, the Delaware Nature Society has benefited the state’s citizens. Committed to preserving the region’s landscape, it encourages an appreciation for the natural world of flora and fauna.
Created in 1964 with 41 charter members, the Delaware Nature Society included nature walks and lectures as its first initiatives. Before the end of the decade, it had inventoried wildlife and plant life throughout parks, established permanent exhibits, set up activities for schoolchildren, and hosted a summer camp.
Today, the Delaware Nature Society conducts seasonal programs for children, adults, and families. The group organizes nature walks led by experienced naturalists who discuss the birds, animals, and plants that the participants witness on these sojourns. Its conservation efforts extol the virtues of preservation, ecological management services, biodiversity management, and green living.
